About Course

Mechanical properties and markings are governed by standards. There are several standardizing organizations around the world, many of them regional or tied to a country or industry. The international organization for standardization (iso) is independent and non-governmental. iso published standards are considered the benchmark and often referred to in customer-specific standards.

The iso 898-1 and 898-2 standards covers many properties of fasteners and nuts. this course will attempt to explain some of these and their importance to bolted joints.

What Will You Learn?

  • ISO 898-2 Mechanical properties of fasteners made of carbon steel and alloy steel is the main document for nuts. It specifies the most important properties of a nut. This course will attempt to explain these properties in a understandable manner.
  • What is strength?
  • What is Tensile strength vs Yield strength?
  • What is Tensile test?
  • What is Elongation? As material ability to extend itself.
  • What is Hardness?
